Smart logistics for Dyson: our modular solution for Arvato
Innovative material handling for high-value electronics
Arvato, logistics partner for Dyson, approached Valor to design and implement a modular material handling system at its facility in Heijen, the Netherlands. This distribution location handled Dyson products and required a highly automated outbound logistics flow with strict requirements for labelling accuracy, weight control and data validation. Valor engineered a tailored solution built around a custom-developed extendable conveyor which improves operational ergonomics by transporting the parcels directly into swap body trailers.
Modular conveyor material handling
The installed material handling system consisted of weighing units, load balancing stations, quality stations and the newly engineered extendable conveyor. Although the total conveyor length was limited, the technical scope and system interfacing made this a complex implementation. Two parallel conveyor lanes were configured, each supported by two print stations. Within each lane, a shipping label and a dangerous goods label were applied automatically.
Each package followed a fixed sequence: barcode scanning, dynamic weighing, automated label application and final verification. A dedicated reporting station validated the combined dataset, including barcode data, weight values, shipping label information and dangerous goods identification, ensuring consistency across all parameters.
Technical material handling alignment
The project required close alignment between multiple hardware with customer specific WMS interface communication protocol. Most decision-making took place off-site, which required precise coordination and a flexible engineering approach. Valor has implemented on-site adjustments to cope with building layout deviations compared to the original design. In addition, the client specified the use of SRD label applicators and Mettler Toledo scales, requiring custom I/O integration to ensure full communication, control logic alignment and operational reliability.
Relocatable material handling system for future continuity
If operational conditions change, the material handling system is designed to maintain consistent processing performance. Valor designed the complete material handling system to be fully relocatable. Using the modular Qliqflow architecture, the system can be dismantled, transported and reinstalled without redesign or re-engineering. All conveyors are 100% reusable, with only minor layout adjustments required to align with the new building layout. This approach maintains performance and operational continuity while ensuring long-term scalability.
The benefits of our modular solution for Arvato
The Arvato x Dyson project demonstrates Valor’s capability to engineer modular, scalable material handling systems that perform reliably in technically demanding environments. From custom mechanical development to complex system interfacing and relocation, Valor delivered a solution that continues to support Dyson’s outbound logistics with precision, stability and long-term flexibility.
